The old bull has been put to pasture. The Lamborghini Gallardo, one of the most successful supercars by the Italian automaker with sales over 14,000 from 2003 through 2013, is now succeeded by a new bull in the Lamborghini North Los Angeles ring, the Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4.
The Huracan, named after the Spanish Conte de la Patilla bull that fought in Alicante, Spain back in 1879, sports several innovations for the discerning Lamborghini owner. Its design is both an evolutionary leap and jump from the Gallardo, with the characteristic hexagonal body language that marks all Lamborghini blending beautifully with the startling new curves found on the side panels and around the wheel wells.
This mixture is just not skin deep. The Huracan chassis is built with the innovative use of both aluminum and carbon fiber. This hybrid design means the supercar is both lighter than its predecessor while still possessing all the desirable strength and stiffness expected in the brand.
Powering the Huracan is an extensively redesigned 5.2-liter V-10 engine. Output from this mill is a jaw-dropping 610-horsepower (which can be seen in the name) and 412 lb.-ft. of torque. The Lamborghini staff at this year's Geneva debut were more than happy to provide performance figures on the Huracan's, which included a 0-62 mph figure of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of more than 200 mph.
All Huracan coupes are equipped with an all-new seven-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy figures, for the curious, with this setup are an EPA-estimated 13 mpg in city driving, 25 mpg on the highway and 19 mpg combined.*
Other notable features found on the 2015 Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 include standard carbon ceramic brakes, segment-leading all-LCD lighting (including the interior), Stop/Start fuel-sipping technology and a three-mode drive system. This last feature affects the ride characteristics of the supercar from an everyday drive ("Strada") to sporty ("Sport") to track-ready ("Corsa"). Options include variable steering and an adaptive suspension system.
The saying, "All good things come to an end" applies even to the highly successful Lamborghini Gallardo. The Huracan LP 610-4, though, builds on its predecessor's success and brings a slew of new features to young and old Lamborghini fans here in LA County alike.
